Michelin Star Awards 2021

There were a few things that came to mind after hearing the announcement of the Michelin Star Awards in the UK and Ireland this year.

Firstly, the number of restaurants achieving a star for the first time or gaining an additional star is hugely impressive considering the unprecedented difficulties with which restaurateurs, chefs and managers have had to contend during the past year. Watching so many restaurants maintaining and even raising the high standards at which they operate shows the class and incredible resilience that exists within the industry. Through the most difficult of times to be able to step up and deliver regardless. This is one of the reasons why we at Freedown Food love this industry so much.

Secondly, what an enormous fillip and inspiration in these difficult times we have been given by restaurant operators and the Michelin Guide. Observing the winners surely helps us imagine a brighter future. The light at the tunnel’s end is brightening as we dare to foresee an end to lockdowns, knowing that we will emerge all together and stronger!

Lastly, big congratulations to all the winners! You are inspiring. Working with many of you makes us proud and the awards remind us why we love what we do! Working with chefs, both starred and not, is the essence of our jobs.
